This is the Revell GMC Syclone in 1/25. The original issues were molded in black, which made sense since nearly every Syclone was black. There were some very few exceptions, which you can read about here. The kit was reissued by Revell around 2010 or so, and that version was molded in white. I built this one using an original issue. There were no fit problems, other than self-inflicted ones. In retrospect, I should have worked to lower it some. I decided to go with a non-factory, non-special edition color scheme. I used Testor's spray lacquers. It's a fun build and I have a couple of more in the stash. Interestingly, the most recent release (2010) included decals to do most of the Marboro special edition. You'd need to source the correct wheels and create your own Marboro logo for the windshield. But, you get the stripes. Maybe I'll do something similar to that next time? I love this kit. Yeah, I know ... some folks are purest and only build 1/25 or 1/24 scale. Not me - if I like the kit, I will build it. Well, at least I will plan to build it. :) Anyway, this is one of those favorite kits. Monogram initially released the kit in the 1980's. It has been reissued several times in Street, S/C, various Race and Dragster renditions. This is the Essex Wire version built from a kit issued around 1990 or 1991. The driver figure is from the later USRRC Limited Edition release of the same kit. Not sure when I built this, but it's been a while. It's the older Tamiya 1/24 kit, and I recall it actually builds up very nicely. This was one of my early attempts at spraying gloss enamel with an airbrush. I guess it turned out decent. It's amazing how small this kit is compared to other 1/24 and even 1/25 cars in the display cabinet. |
